Water Usage & Treatment

February 17, 2020

In an effort to be mindful of the environment, many families are focusing on minimizing their water usage. The average family can use anywhere from 80 - 100 gallons of water per day. It can be helpful to pay attention to how much water you actually use inside, and outside your home. By taking a look at wasteful water use (leaving the faucet running when brushing your teeth, or doing the dishes) you may be able to minimize your daily your water usage, while simultaneously decreasing your water bill.

Installing water-efficient appliances and adopting habits that require less water.

Washing Machines: The average household uses their washing machine a few times a week. If you are using a model older than 20 years, it can be costing you quite a bit of money and using up to twice the amount of water than it's modern day counterpart. We recommend using models that boast the Energy Star-label.

Toilets: Using a more water-efficient toilet can help you significantly reduce your water usage. Toilet flushing accounts for almost 30 percent of the average household’s indoor water use, according to the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency).

If you have an older toilet in your home, it may be using as much as 6 gallons per flush. Today’s models, though, typically require no more than 1.6 gallons.

Leaking faucets can slowly build up to account for hundreds (and even THOUSANDS) of gallons of water lost each year. If you have a basement toilet that constantly runs, or a dripping faucet and shower-head, it is best to address it immediately. If you just 'aren't that handy', be sure to call in the professionals.

Water is essential for many aspects of everyday life. But taking some proactive steps may help keep your water bill down while also conserving an important natural resource.
