Is It Safe To Move?

March 30, 2020

With most of the nation sheltering in place for the foreseeable future, this is definitely NOT an optimal time to move. Social distancing, listening to the professionals, and doing everything you can to keep your family safe.

But what if you don't have a choice... what if your move is already scheduled?

What if your home already sold, the offer was accepted, and your closing went through? Hooray? It's moving time, and you need to crack on.

If you can hire a moving company, you are in luck. They will be doing a majority of the heavy lifting of larger items. This means you and your family will be responsible for getting your home ready for the movers to do their job. Depending on where you are located, some moving companies may be closed.

Be sure to check with your state and local municipalities to confirm local moving companies are open, and will be able to facilitate your move, and do so in a safe manner.

You can help your mover out (and speed up the process) by pack clothing, kitchenwares, toys, games, electronics and ANYTHING ELSE that isn't a large piece of furniture, or an appliance. You have two options - pack into boxes, and the movers will add to their workload, or take these items over to the new home yourself.

This is a good way to assure your electronics, TVs, laptops, and dishes don't get damaged during the move. Even the most professional moving company can't keep an eye on everything, and sometimes rush to get the job done.

When you moving company is scheduled to arrive, be sure to have the proper PPE (personal protective equipment) on at all times, including a face mask & rubber gloves. It's also a good idea to keep your family away from the entire situation - only one person is needed to conduct the movers, so keep it minimal. CDC recommends keeping your distance between you and the movers, roughly 6-10 feet away.

Audible: Truck rental companies may still be operating, so if you need more space than the old mini-van, this may be a useful option.

This is the easiest part of your move... well, it is if you call ONIT Concierge. In a single phone call, ONIT can connect your utilities like water, gas and energy, as well as connect your internet, tv (cable or satellite), smart home security, solar energy, water treatment and more.
