Whether you’ve moved every year since you turned 18 or you’re downsizing into your dream retirement home, moving is STRESSFUL! It seems like there may not be enough organization, planning, or simply finding an easier way to navigate the process. That’s why we are in business. We do all the things that you don’t like doing. Here are a few tips to make the move to your new home a whole lot less stressful:
30-60 DAYS BEFORE YOU MOVE
Hire someone to professionally clean the new place before you move in.
Start packing things you won’t need to use in the next sixty days. Just make sure you account for seasons changing and upcoming holidays.
Setup a donation pile for your preferred nonprofit. There is no better way to start in a new home by getting rid of things that you no longer need or use. You’ll be able to claim this donation as a tax deduction!
Make a list for your furniture and measure it. If it won’t fit in your new home, sell it on a local marketplace!
Start updating your address everywhere.
Ask local retailers and friends for gently-used boxes. Remember to pack them with the idea of having to lift them! You can use trash cans, suitcases and trash bags as boxes too.
Make sure to note what is in each box, if it’s fragile, and what room it needs to go into. That’ll help on moving day!
Once you have everything packed, start cleaning your old home for the new owners. It’s good ju-ju.
Take photos of the back of your TV and other electronic devices. That way, you know exactly which wires go where when you're setting up in the new place!
Call us to schedule all your utilities and services needs. We do utilities, security, cable, wifi, solar, moving furniture, and water filtration.
IT’S MOVING DAY!
Make sure to load up on snacks and breakfast items on the morning of your move. You don’t want to have to go anywhere in the morning after moving day.
If you have a pet, put their food and water bowl in the same room as where you put it in the old home. The more consistent you are with your dog's routine, the less likely they are to be anxious and destroy things.
Keep all your moving day essentials in an overnight bag or backpack.
If you’ve hired professionals, do keep valuables like your Social Security Card on you at all times. It’s better to be safe than sorry!
Pack the items that you'll need most immediately in a heavily marked box designated as your "open first" box. Re: bed sheets, plates, silverware, bath towels, etc.
You’re all done with moving day!
We know it’s stressful, Moving day is stressful, so allow yourself some "me time" when it's over. Watch a movie, order some pizza, or do whatever you need to relax after a long day of hard work.
